If you google ‘how much should my puppy sleep a day?’ it tells you that it is a lot.

Dakota it seems likes to mainly take these hours in the day.  Sleep at night is not high on the agenda.

Lucky us…

From the first night home, she has slept in her crate, and gone in fine between 9:30pm and 11pm, that bit isn’t a problem.  Then as expected we have been up every 2-4 hours to let her out for a wee/poo.  Again not a problem.  After each wee/poo she is put back in the crate, door closed, blanket on and that is it.

But the thing that is breaking us are the 4am starts.  I think it is a mixture of it being light, birds singing and then add into that the

CATS OMG I NEED TO GO AND PLAY WITH THEM IN CASE THEY ACTUALLY LOVE ME TODAY

So between 4am and 4:45am Dakota starts her day, with a bang.

She often gives in about 5:30am for an hour nap but by that time it is not worth attempting sleep yourself.  It has been suggested to just put her back in the crate and let her cry.  I have no issue with this is it takes less than 1-2 mins for her to settle and its a tired whimper.  But when it is full on barking and bashing it isn’t really going to work.  And we like our neighbours too!

And the night time wakings, the alternative is to leave her to wee in her crate, or put puppy pads down, but she is doing so well with her toilet training it seems so silly to go backwards.

So we just hope that it will get better.  And hopefully sooner *yawn*

Her morning energy is hilarious though, it does often take me until 8am to appreciate it though!
